5 out of 5 stars Simple yet effective   September 9, 2010
Richard (BERKS, UK)
I bought this caddy/enclosure because I had upgraded my laptop hard drive and decided to use the existing drive as a removable backup drive. It came with a soft leather/pleather pouch that slides over the enclosure which should prevent you from scratching it when it travels around, which I thought was quite nice.
I have noticed that the caddy/enclosure operates using only the 1 USB to USB connector cable ie. without plugging in the USB to Power cable. But I wouldn't recommend using the caddy/enclosure like this as I suspect the performance/speed of the hard drive might be negatively affected?

5 out of 5 stars Great for a 'useless' Xbox Elite hard drive...   September 7, 2010
D Deacon (Liverpool, England)
My Xbox Elite did the death dance recently leaving a bereft 120GB SATA hard drive - I now have a Xbox 360 250GB Slim. This Iomax enclousre is ideal for the 120GB which ironically can now be used with my new Xbox! The Iomax is well packaged for such a cheap item and is very easy to assemble. Just plug the HD into the enclosure, screw in the two tiny screws to hold it there and away you go.

They supply a USB power cable and a USB cable. Under Windows 7 I only needed the USB cable since power was provided by that. I should add that the USB cable supplied did not work. I used a spare and it worked well. I did not need any drivers or whatever - they supply a small DVD with a 'one touch backup' system unless you want to use it for that, you do not need it. All I had to do was format the HD and it worked fine. It can get a bit hot when being used to transfer lots of files but in general use it's cool.

It is small enough to be carried in a laptop case or your pocket. This is really a bargain.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Caddy!   September 3, 2010

Bought this to create myself a removable USB drive. I already have several ToughDrives and they're good but slightly on the expensive side. This I just wanted as a backup drive that doesn't get moved that often, so I purchased this caddy along with a 500GB laptop drive, put it together within 60 seconds, plugged in, formatted drive and all worked fine!

You get everything you need in this set including screws and a small screwdriver to lock the drive in the caddy.

Well worth the money!

5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the can...   September 2, 2010
W. Black (Scarborough UK)
This is dead easy to put together, all the bits are there, including a teeny tiny screwdriver for the teeny tiny screws that are easy to lose, but they do give you a spare one in case you drop one on the carpet.

It even comes with a swish leather case, something my much more expensive WD passport drive didn't have...

After that it's just a case of plugging it in.

It comes with a power lead for people who don't have powered USB ports but as that terminates in a USB plug it's next to useless.

It also comes with some software on a mini CD, but don't bother with it, the thing is just a storage device. Keep it simple...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent bit of hardware   September 2, 2010
Dick Pearson (Newark, UK)
I've had a lot of experience over the years with disk enclosures; some good, some bad. This one was cheap, worked straight out of the box, is relatively substantial (being aluminium), and isn't unattractive to look at. The instructions warn you and it turns out that it's a bit choosy about USB cables and ports - it needs all the 0.5A a USB 2.0 port is supposed to provide: the cable supplied works fine but a number of my others (allegedly USB 2.0) don't.

And I'm very glad to see that the manufacturer didn't put hard coded utilities into firmware.

One very, very minor niggle: the case is supplied with a carrying case which fits the drive nicely, however, it does seem odd that there is no provision for carrying the necessary USB lead in the case.
