This is a good Webcam for the money.
As I am using windows 7 on my laptop I was surprise that it was a plug in and play that windows saw the device and then as I was using Skype, linked the Webcam into this application.
The only thing I don't like about this is that Microsoft has force me to install "LifeCam" software, which I don't need or use but if you install it then the next time you use the Webcam, it will ask for it and re-install it.
Saying that, the quality of the images and the sound from the device is great it auto force on objects so the quality of the image is great.
Recording a video is straight forward and easy.
If I have to recommend a webcam to a friend then I would mention this to them to have a look at.

Neat product. Hardware is nicely made, easy enough to use, and appears robust.
Software seems to have the odd issue, and some claims are slightly misleading, high definition resolution and 30 fps do not appear to go together in reality. Not too surprised, but not seen anyone particularly stress that point to date.
I have made some pleasing time lapse videos, and quite a lot of short videos using it as a nest/feeder cam with wild birds. I have had it work with 2 Amazon basics USB extension cables (a 1M and a 3M, both individually and combined), that is great as it gives some useful extra range. Supplied cable is an adequate length though.
So, not perfect, but quite close and a lot of extra fun if you allow your imagination wander into non web based uses as well as the more normal applications.
On mine the software closes down the sound after ten seconds if you use anything other than highest resolution and use the zoom function to record a video. That is almost certainly a bug in the software that Microsoft could and should address. Probably not a show stopper for most people though.

This Is The Best Webcam Ever..However, It is also packaged in the most over engineered packaging I have ever come accross...frustrating to open.I hate to think of how many hours of design and cost went into this package design....what were you thinking of Microsoft..But as I said before...The Webcam itself Is awesome
